Most times ANSI flange gaskets are available from most suppliers in Ring or Full Face with bolt holes, but there are times when you may come across DIN (metric flanges) or valve bonnets or ammonia flange gaskets. While all still round in shape, they don’t conform to standard sizes and are not commonly stocked by most suppliers nor do they carry the dies to make them because they are rarely requested and when they are, the quantities requested are not worth the investment.
In this case, a gasket cutter kit is a very useful tool to have in any plant, factory or workshop. Once you have chosen the right gasket material you will be able to cut these one-off gaskets yourself!
There are several brands on the market but the one I like the most is the Allpax Gasket Cutting Kit. One of the things I like about this kit is that all the replacement parts, eg: blades, centering pins, cutting board are easily available so you never have to buy another kit, you can just purchase the parts you need.
They are available in several models.
• AX 6000 no cutting board
• AX 6010 up to 13” OD
• AX 6020
• AX 6030
• AX 6040
• AX 6050 up to 61” OD
• AX 6100 series is all metric kits
ThThese kits all come with several useful attachments
• Cutting block
• Pivot post
• Bolt hole locator for Full face gaskets
• Duve tale tool
• Thick and thin blades
• Wooden knob for very small diameter gaskets
• Extension arms
And a lot more.
The basic difference between the kits is the additional extension arms. Each arm adds 12 inches to your cutting diameter. When choosing a kit you should first determine the largest possible OD (Outer Diameter) you may need to cut. Another useful addition would be a Hollow Punch Kit for punching out bolt holes.
Both kits are a MUST HAVE for any Plant/Workshop and will save you time and money. Cutting your own gaskets doesn’t get easier than this.
